YES, IT IS A GOOD TIME TO BUY A NEW HOME:
• The newly enacted stimulus law contains an $8,000 first-time home buyer tax credit good through November 2009.
• The 2009 first-time home buyer tax credit does not have to be repaid unless the home is sold within three years.
• The $8,000 tax credit may be used toward downpayment and closing costs on FHA-insured mortgages.
• Mortgage interest rates are at the lowest level in decades.
• Available inventory is probably the best it will ever be, providing buyers with a great choice of homes.
• Home are more affordable than ever.
• Many builders have inventory that is “move-in ready,” and they may offer upgrades or other incentives to seal the deal.
• As a long-term investment, homeownership remains a solid investment for individual households, with a track record that can compete with any other purchase in terms of its real benefits.

UGLY BUSINESS – CONSUMERS BEWARE
“…unlicensed contractors can underbid licensed contractors, stealing jobs. What many consumers don’t know is that the reason they can underbid could be because they’re not paying state-required worker’s compensation or liability insurance. In addition, they may not be able to pass the background check, meet training and experience requirements, and can’t meet financial requirements. Ultimately, the consumer can end up paying dearly when he thought he was saving a buck or two.”
Charles W. Drago, Secretary
Department of Business and Professional Regulation
IMPORTANT CONSUMER ALERT: Protect yourself from unlicensed contractor activities. An occupational license is NOT a license to perform contracting work. A Handyman is not a licensed contractor and CANNOT obtain permits. ALWAYS check with your local building department. Make sure that your contractor has a license from Lake or Sumter County Building Divisions or the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. It is AGAINST THE LAW to hire unlicensed contractors and stiff penalties could apply.
